ABOUT MICHAEL

In 2009, I graduated with distinction from the Acting program at the University of Southern Queensland and I've worked extensively as a actor, singer, musician, theatre-in-education practitioner and teacher, having been employed by various companies and institutions over the last decade. Highlights include Shake & Stir theatre company, Queensland Museum & Sciencentre, NIDA OPEN Melbourne and Ozplays Australia.

As an actor, I've been directed by QLD Theatre National Artistic Team Member Kat Henry and NIDA graduate and director Andrea Moor, among others. I've performed hundreds of times for Shake & Stir Theatre Co. as lead actor for their in-schools theatre troupe all over Queensland. Similarly, I've presented educational shows for the Queensland Museum & Sciencentre, Energex and Echelon Productions. As a musician I've composed for Shakespearean productions (notably USQ’s 'As You Like It'), various children's projects and recorded, released and toured my own adult contemporary album and EP in 2014 and 2018 respectively. In 2019, I co-wrote and performed 'Adventure with Paradise the Parrot', a solo children’s show for the Empire Theatre at the 2019 QLD Emerge Arts Festival in QLD, Australia.

I also hold full registration as a QCT-qualified teacher having completed a GradDip Ed. in 2016. I've taught at primary, secondary and tertiary levels including both general classes and targeted workshops on story-telling, Brecht, Shakespeare, improvisation, Stanislavski, voice, singing, Drama and specific acting skills. 

In 2018, I designed, implemented and assessed a comprehensive drama program for Middle Ridge Primary School. In 2019, I created a course for online platform Skillshare on how to write, rehearse and perform children's theatre and taught drama for NIDA OPEN in Melbourne. Recently, as a guest teaching artist for the Empire Theatre, I taught both the junior and senior drama classes for Toowoomba Anglican School, Dalby Drama and Drama Plus.

Additional training in improvisation, comedy, clown and stand-up has led to performance outcomes in both the Brisbane and Melbourne stand-up comedy scenes. Since the start of 2019, I have also worked consistently as a professional voiceover artist.

2020 saw a return to songwriting and music performance. I'm currently based out of Northern Rivers, NSW where I gig consistently having just released my Beautiful Day EP in Bangalow on October 1st, 2022.
